How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via Face-to-face.

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in half-day training and assessment session

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend approximately 7.25 – 9.25 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn?

This course is designed to develop your expertise in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Among others, you will learn to:

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Perform CPR procedure
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Review the incident

How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through:

  • Scenario-based assessments
  • Practical skills demonstration assessments
  • Questioning – Written or Verbal

What are the entry requirements?

There are no pre-requisites to enter this training program. However, Optimum Training Academy screens students according to the following criteria:

Physical attributes requirements

Each of the units of competency that this strategy applies to specifies that students must, among other things, be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor, in order to be deemed as competent. They also must be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.

Students must also be able to perform manual handling tasks safely.

Therefore, prospective students need to have the physical attributes to be able to:

  • Bring themselves to floor level in order to perform the above task.
  • Perform each of the above tasks uninterrupted for two minutes.
  • Have the physical capacity to perform manual handling tasks safely.

Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory or Certification Considerations

Specific licensing /regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training according to relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

Refresher training in CPR must be carried out annually.


What are the resources needed to complete the course?

To support you in your new course with Optimum Training Academy, we will provide the following:

  • Reading Materials and Assessment Workbook
  • Medical equipment and supplies for training, including:
    • adult and infant resuscitation manikins in line with ARC guidelines
    • AED training devices
    • personal protective equipment (PPE)

To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

  • Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
    • internet access preferably through Google Chrome
    • MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader

What are the Qualification Pathways?

Learners may progress their studies with the following units:

  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support*
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid
  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting*
  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site*

*These courses are not offered by Optimum Training Academy


Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

Due to the requirement for annual retraining in the competencies contained within this unit, RPL will not be offered.
